The Rutland Nursery Author Series welcomes award-winning garden designer and author Ann-Marie Powell to The Bothy for a morning celebrating the beauty and creativity of planting with colour. In conversation with our in-house host Chris Young, Ann-Marie will share the inspiration behind her latest book A Year of Colour, exploring her own garden, her approach to design and the planting combinations that bring vibrancy and joy to every season, alongside practical advice and ideas to inspire gardeners of all spaces.
Ann-Marie Powell is a multi-award-winning garden designer, television presenter, journalist and author, known for her vibrant planting style and passion for creating gardens that connect with people. In 2024, she was awarded both the BBC People’s Choice Award and the Children’s Choice Award for her Octavia Hill-inspired garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Her latest book, A Year of Colour, is a joyful guide to creating a garden full of life throughout the year, sharing over 40 tried-and-tested planting combinations from Ann-Marie’s own garden. With colour charts, plant profiles and expert tips, the book offers inspiration and practical guidance for gardeners looking to create bold, beautiful displays in any space.
Hosting the conversation is Chris Young, one of the leading voices in gardening and horticultural publishing. With over 25 years’ experience, including as former editor of The Garden for the RHS and now Consultant Gardening Publisher for DK Books, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for uncovering the stories behind the people shaping the gardening world.
